The Saratoga Springs community and the wider high school athletics world are mourning the loss of Coach Art Kranick, a beloved and influential figure whose leadership, dedication, and passion shaped generations of student-athletes. Art passed away on Saturday morning, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy of mentorship, achievement, and commitment in the world of cross country and track and field.

For nearly four decades, Art and his wife, Linda Kranick, led one of the nation’s most successful and respected running programs — the Saratoga Springs High School Blue Streaks. Together, they cultivated not only a powerhouse of athletic excellence but also a community where young athletes learned discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and the value of character.

Under Art’s guidance, the Saratoga Springs cross country and track programs achieved remarkable success, including multiple Nike Cross Nationals titles in 2019 and 2022, over 20 state championships, and nearly 30 Federation meet titles. Yet, beyond the trophies and accolades, Art’s most lasting victories were the countless lives he positively impacted.

Those who knew Coach Kranick remember him as a mentor, motivator, and father figure. His approach to coaching extended far beyond athletic performance — he was committed to developing confident, resilient individuals. Art and Linda were renowned for supporting every student-athlete, nurturing both talent and character. As one colleague noted: “So many happy kids owe a college education to Art and Linda. They were champions of the downtrodden… they did a really good job with kids who were in need.”

Even as he faced health challenges in recent years, Art’s passion for the sport and his runners never diminished. In April 2025, Art and Linda stepped down from coaching to focus on his medical care, closing an extraordinary chapter that began in 1985 when they first assumed leadership of the Saratoga Springs program.

Coach Kranick’s influence will endure for generations — in every runner who laces up with purpose, in every student who learned to believe in themselves, and in every coach inspired by his example.

To the Kranick family, and especially to Linda, the entire Saratoga Springs and running community extends its deepest condolences and heartfelt gratitude. Art’s impact went far beyond the track; he built a legacy of excellence, compassion, and community that will never fade.

Rest in peace, Coach Art Kranick. Your race was run with heart, purpose, and grace, and your legacy will continue to lead the way.
