It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joanne P. Bartlett, a devoted educator, leader, and cherished member of the St. Paul’s community, who passed away on November 7, 2025, at her home in Owings Mills, Maryland. She was 64 years old and was surrounded by the love and care of her husband, Chris Bartlett, and her two children, Elizabeth Brown and Nicholas Bartlett.

Joanne’s career at St. Paul’s began in 1988 when she joined St. Paul’s School for Girls as a college counselor, senior class dean, and assistant field hockey coach. She later served as an admissions officer until 1997, leaving an indelible mark on generations of students through her guidance, encouragement, and compassion.

Her commitment to the school extended far beyond her teaching years. Elected to the Board of Trustees in 2013, Joanne became board president in 2016 and, in 2018, was appointed the first chief executive officer of the unified St. Paul’s Schools Board of Trustees. Working alongside then-Board President Liz Robinson, she played a key role in unifying the schools and strengthening their shared mission. Most recently, she contributed as a member of the steering committee for the SPSG building project, demonstrating her enduring dedication to the school’s growth and community.

Joanne’s exemplary service was recognized with the Robert Pollock Trustee Service Award in 2019 and the Green Apple Award in 2024, honors that reflect her legacy of leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment. In tribute to her life and work, the Joanne P. Bartlett Endowed Scholarship Fund has been established by her family. The fund will provide four-year scholarships to incoming freshmen at both St. Paul’s School for Boys and St. Paul’s School for Girls who demonstrate a passion for the arts or athletics, exhibit strong leadership, and contribute meaningfully to the life of the school community — qualities Joanne championed throughout her life.

Joanne Bartlett will be remembered not only for her professional accomplishments but also for her warmth, guidance, and the lasting impact she had on everyone she touched. Her dedication, vision, and generosity have left an enduring imprint on the St. Paul’s community and beyond.

We extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the Bartlett family, and to all who were fortunate to know her. Joanne’s life was one of service, love, and inspiration, and her legacy will continue to shine for generations to come.
